New Year's Day

January 1, 2008 - New Year's Resolutions

1. Personal: Take my makeup off every night, patience, patience, patience
2. Professional: Ship the bikes, Mango Tree - write a grant?, Argentina
3. Physical: Stay in the gym, Get in the pool, yoga, bike - train for Ovarian Cycle (virtual 100 mile ride to raise money for ovarian cancer research).
4. Mental: Work on my Spanish, read - year of the Balkans?, learn something new every day.

I was the designated drive last night so, even though I slept in this morning, I managed to get to the gym and had a nice workout - sometimes it is really hard though!!!!!!!!

Bought a new book - not like I don't already have enough books - but this one is about Sarajevo. It is called People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks - I can't wait to read it but it will have to wait until I am done with the fascinating "Autobiography of Henry VIII." It is an absolutely fascinating book. I think this year will be my year to study the Balkans - after Lesley's visit, I need to learn a whole lot more. However, I may have to interrupt it all for some reading on Pakistan and Burma!!! Should be a fascinating year!

Traditions in the South for New Years are, like most other traditions centered around food. Today I made falafel (not southern but necessary in a diet of fruits and veggies my daughter being a vegetarian). But, for the traditional southern New Years fare: black eyed peas, turnip greens, gumbo (featuring shrimp, scallops and oysters - would have had crawfish except I couldn't find any in the stores around here) and bread. Tossed down with a few beers or a nice glass of red wine...maybe a shiraz tonight!!!!!

Enjoy the changes and newness of the New Year. Learn from the Old Year.

So she woke up, woke up from where she was standing still.
Said I got to do something about where we're going...
